Sudan

We issued a statement issued over the weekend by the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths.

With the conflict in Sudan now in its fourth month, Mr. Griffiths said the misery for civilians is deepening, and the ongoing fighting is hampering efforts to reach those in need with life-saving assistance.

He called on the parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and provide predictable commitments that allow the UN and our partners to safely deliver humanitarian relief to vulnerable people, wherever they are.
 

Syria

The Security Council held a private meeting and consultations on Syria, at the request for Switzerland and Brazil, this morning. Mr. Griffiths briefed Council members.
